At some time the majority of women, for reasons of attraction, confidence or illness, have wished for improvement to areas of their body. Now, due to the ever-increasing advancement and availability of Cosmetic Surgery, these wishes can come true!!
High on their wish list are improvements to their breasts. This can cover:
a) Breast Augmentation (enlargements) - breasts out of proportion to the body.
Implants are used to increase size. For reasons of safety, those used are made with a special silicone that has been especially developed for the purpose.
b) Breast Lifting / Shaping - due to loss of volume or after pregnancy or dieting.
Breast lifts are usually performed to sagging breast, due to aging, dieting or pregnancy. Once the surgeon has established the reason for the sagging, he will discuss the best course of action, as each person has different expectations. The scar, which is normally in the form of a T in reverse, starts around the areola and extends in a straight line under the breast.
c) Breast Asymmetry - correcting and balancing the size of the breasts.
Many women have uneven breasts. This is where plastic surgery can help by given you the perfect even shape. This operation corrects the differences in breast sizes by either enlarging or reducing and so establishing a more natural form to suit the body dimensions and boosts the confidence.
d) Breast Reduction - breast are too large and uncomfortable.
The shape and size of a woman’s breast is often determined by heredity. Sometimes the breasts are large because of obesity but in some cases it may be the result of glandular disorders.
Whatever the cause, pendulous breasts can be corrected by Cosmetic Surgery.
e) Breast Reconstruction - usually after illness.
The Operation
In most cases the operation is performed under general anaesthetic, usually with minimal time in the recovery room before returning to your accommodation.
Some pain and bruises around the area of the breasts will occur for a few days after surgery for which painkillers will be prescribed. Numbness may occur around the area of the wound or around the nipple but this usually disappears with time. The breasts will be bandaged for about four days and after this a special support bra should be worn for some weeks. Advice will be given about this.
Preparation
It is advisable that smokers refrain from smoking at least 8 weeks before the operation. This is to reduce the risk of complications, such as wound infections or slow healing.
The surgeon will need to know details of your current/past health, of any allergies you may have, medicines you are taking and previous surgery or hospital treatment.
